The Australian Consumer Law (ACL) harmonises previous state and federal consumer laws into a single set of provisions that applies to all traders across the country. The ACL took effect on the 1st January 2011 with specific sections of the regime being rolled out after this date. Schedule 3 , the last of the roll outs dealing with warranties, came into effect on the 1st January 2012.
The ACL will be enforced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) as a law of the Commonwealth.
Following requests from the membership, CVIAQ is in the process of organising an information session to be held in March to explain the new requirements and how they will affect the heavy vehicle industry. The ACCC will be facilitating the event, tayloring the information to the industry and will be on hand to answer any specific questions members may have.
An information flyer with more detail will be emailed to members in the near future. The flyer will also be posted on the CVIAQ website and as an article in the February edition of the CVIAQ e-newsletter. As the new laws will effect all businesses, CVIAQ ecourages and welcomes all members and staff to attend this important event. |
