Due to the success of previous Schools to Industry Tours in providing the impetus for school students and school leavers to consider a career within the Commercial Vehicle Industry, CVIAQ has increased the number of Tours in 2009 to four, two of which have recently been completed.

On the 6th August CVIAQ member companies in the Brisbane South West district, Black Truck Sales, Rocklea and Trailer Manufacturer, Lusty EMS, Richlands hosted over sixty students from local secondary schools and provided an informative day showcasing all the career options available to students within their businesses.
 
CVIAQ member companies, The Brown & Hurley Group, Yatala branch and tanker manufacturer, Holmwood Highgate, Loganholme opened their doors to over one hundred secondary school students from the Logan and Beenleigh districts on the 26th August.

The tour in the Brisbane South West district was the fifth of its kind to be jointly organised by CVIAQ and local community partnership group, South West Career Connect. The Tour in the Logan / Beenleigh districts was the first time that CVIAQ and Local Community Partnership Groups, Logan Schools to Work Inc and Beenleigh Region Industry Training Network have collaborated. The host companies on both Tours proved to be the right mix in providing students with the majority of career options that the commercial vehicle industry has to offer.

Students and teaching staff were able to see activities involving many of the trades in the manufacturing and service & repair sectors as well as sales, spare parts and administrative operations.

The 2009 CVIAQ Schools to Industry Tours continue the tradition established by previous tours in providing a vehicle for students to make informative choices about apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience within the commercial vehicle industry as they prepare to leave school and enter the workforce.

The school tours are part of the ongoing CVIAQ commitment in addressing the continuing skills shortage being experienced by its members.
