CVIAQ member companies, Volvo Group Australia and trailer manufacturer, Hercules Trailers, opened their doors to eighty secondary school students from the Toowoomba and Beenleigh districts and provided an informative day showcasing all the career options available to students within their businesses during the 2011 CVIAQ Schools to Industry Tour.
Secondary schools involved on the day were St Joseph’s College and Concordia Lutheran College (Toowoomba) and Beenleigh State High School, Windaroo Valley State High School and Trinity College (Beenleigh).
Students and teaching staff were able to see activities involving many of the trades in the manufacturing and service & repair sectors as well as spare parts and sales operations. Any student interested in pursuing a career within the heavy vehicle industry is invited to follow up the tour with some work experience either with the two host companies or with any other interested CVIAQ member company based in Queensland’s South East corner.
Many well deserved thanks to Mr Warren Wittmann, Apprentice Co-ordinator, Volvo Group Australia and Mr Malcolm Hall, Hercules Trailers for giving up their valuable time to conduct the tours and co-ordinating all the participating staff. A special thank you is directed to Volvo Group Australia for providing lunch to all participants on the day.
The 2011 CVIAQ Schools to Industry Tour continues the successful tradition established in 2004 in providing a vehicle for students to make informative choices about apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience within the commercial vehicle industry as they prepare to leave school and enter the workforce.
