08/06/11  Service Managers' Council Meeting
 

The CVIAQ Service Managers Council met on Wednesday 8th June at the CVIAQ Office, Seventeen Mile Rocks.The meeting commenced at 9.10am with Acting Council Chairman, Mr Paul Woodland, welcoming the 16 attendees.

Mr Woodland introduced Mr John Samson, CVIAQ Technical & Regulatory Officer, to report on the CVIAQ Apprentice Challenge, conducted at the recent Brisbane Truck Show. Mr Samson advised that the competition worked very well over the four days with very little incident. Mr Samson took the opportunity to thank the sponsors of the event, MAHA Australia and Warby Tools and the volunteer staff who supported him throughout the event and in the lead up. Specific mention went to the Western Star Trucks and the staff at SkillsTech Australia who turned up each morning to set the faults in the trucks readying them for the days competition. Mr Woodland reported on the schools attendance on the Thursday and Friday of the show, advising that over 200 students visited the show, to hear about industry careers, see the displays at the show and to attend the competition.   

Mr Woodland then updated the Council on the CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Awards. Council members reviewed the nomination form that was soon to be released. Discussion took place over the nominee eligibility criteria where some council members expressed an interest in moving the eligibity time period for the following years awards to commence as soon as the nomination deadline expired for the current years awards. Mr Woodland advised that he would seek the opinion of the Awards Judging Panel on this issue. 

Mr John Samson, presented a technical update to Council members which included:
* The upcoming review of VSB6 in conjunction with the Department of Transport & Main Roads. Mr Samson advised that Section A "Engines" and Section T "Tow Trucks" would be reviewed first and called on volunteers from Council to assist in the review, in particular Section A.
* Approved Inspection Station (AIS) system
* CVIAQ response to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) Regulatory Impact Statement. Areas responded to included dealer / trade plates, heavy vehicle modifications, vehicle inspectionsand work diary requirements.

Mr Woodland briefly discussed the CVIAQ Golf Day to be held at the Gailes Golf Club on Tuesday 13th September 2011.

In "Additional Business", Mr Warren Wittmann of Volvo Commercial Vehicles requested an update on the Industry Ambassadors program for 2011. Mr Paul Kulpa, QASA, responded, advising that QASA and CVIAQ were reviewing Government funding options to fund the program again.

There being no further business, Mr Woodland closed the meeting at 10.25am.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 5th October 2011.
