15/06/10  Trailer Technician Qualification now Available
 

The Trailer Technician (Heavy Vehicle) qualification has been added to the AUR 30605 specialist category in the Automotive Training Package. This qualification provides an opportunity for members involved in repairing and servicing trailers to train specialist staff to a tradesperson level.

The qualification is a Certificate 3 level and consists of 28 units of competency with the following units being mandatory:

Carry out repairs to single electrical circuits
Carry out gas metal arc (MIG) welding procedures
Carry out oxy acetylene welding, thermal cutting and thermal heating procedures
Service and repair trailers (heavy)
Inspect, service and repair auxiliary braking systems
Assemble and fit braking systems/components
Repair air braking systems
Repair suspension systems (heavy vehicle)
Inspect vehicle systems and determine preferred repair action
Service and repair electronically controlled anti-lock braking systems
Overhaul air braking systems/components
 

The balance of the units can be selected from the technical inventory to suit the employer’s requirements. This qualification has been specifically tailored to suit the trailer repair and service requirements and provides a great opportunity to build a pool of qualified workers.

This is an opportunity for the trailer service and repair sector of the industry to utilize this qualification to get the skilled people that they require. Skills Tech is looking at the possibility of delivery of this qualification in 2011. To achieve this will depend on industry support.
