14/10/06  The 2006 CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Award
 

The presentation of the Apprentice of the Year Award took place during the CVIAQ Annual Dinner and Awards Night held at Hillstone St.Lucia on Saturday 14th October and was announced by Board Director Mr Bob Martin.

The Apprentice of the Year Award is an annual award open to final year apprentices from the heavy vehicle repair, service and manufacturing sectors. The entrants must be nominated by their employer and are judged by interview with a panel of members appointed by the Association.

The award is held in high regard by industry and has a history stretching back over twenty-five years. The Apprentice of the Year Award has provided a unique showcase for the talents of our best apprentices. Nominated apprentices are elligible for awards in three categories:

  Apprentice of the Year
  High Achievement Award
   Certicate of Merit

The judges chose five recipients for awards:                               

2006 CVIAQ Apprentice Of The Year
TOM HIGGINS
– Cummins Engine Company / TORGAS (HCV Engineering - Mechanical)
       
High Achievement Award
RAFIQ DEEN – Mack Trucks Australia (HCV Mechanical)
LEE RODGIE – Cummins Engine Company / TORGAS (HCV Engineering - Mechanical)

Certificate of Merit
TROY RICHARDS – The Brown & Hurley Group (HCV Mechanical)
RYAN STEWART – Stewart & Sons Coaches (Bus, Truck & Trailer Manufacture)

The prize value for the awards was in excess of $9,000 with the Apprentice of the Year receiving a laptop, software, printer and tools to the value of $4,000.

The other award recipients shared tools to the value of $5,000.

The CVIAQ applaud the generosity of its members who donated the funds raised from the annual CVIAQ Golf Day to the purchasing of the prize package for the award recipients. Many thanks also to Warby Tools for their share in the sponsorship of this award.
