12/08/06  CVIAQ Continues Its Commitment To Leukaemia Cause

In a continuing show of commitment to Queenslanders living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders, the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ) raised almost $140,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation at its 2006 President’s Charity Dinner on Saturday 12 August 2006.

The dinner, which was held at Brisbane City Hall’s Main Auditorium, has become an annual event with 2006 the fifth year the CVIAQ Board has made the Leukaemia Foundation its beneficiary.

The money was raised from numerous auction items which included two trucks from Freightliner and Isuzu, as well as holidays, artwork and sporting memorabilia.

Around 500 guests representing the industry’s leading companies attended the glittering evening hosted by comedian Scott Williams with special guest Bruce Paige.

Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland Chief Executive Officer Peter Johnstone said the Foundation was extremely grateful for the CVIAQ’s ongoing support and commitment to helping patients and their families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.

“Over the past five years the CVIAQ President’s Charity Dinner has raised in excess of $500,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation which is an outstanding contribution.

“A huge thank you is extended to the organising committee including CVIAQ Past President Mark Johnston from Haulmark Trailers, Chris Musch from Isuzu Trucks, CVIAQ President Sharon O’Phee of O’Phee Trailers and Glen Lewis of The Glistening Truck Company,” Mr Johnstone said.

Funds raised from this year’s CVIAQ President’s Charity Dinner will be directed towards the Leukaemia Foundation’s new 30 unit $7.5 million accommodation village The Clem Jones – Sunland Leukaemia Foundation Village which is currently under construction at a site in Brisbane.

CVIAQ’s will fund the development of the common room at the new village which is a vital area for patients and their families to relax and socialise with other residents who are all in similar situations. It is also a space where local community groups and businesses can hold meetings and conferences.

The Clem Jones – Sunland Leukaemia Foundation Village will be available to patients and their families in March 2007.
