HVTT11 HEAVY VEHICLE SYMPOSIUM

CVIAQ Technical & Regulatory Officer, Mr John Samson attended the HVTT11 Symposium in March to identify technical issues that have relevance to CVIAQ members.  Mr Samson commented that it was a tremendous opportunity to be able to hear speakers from all over the world who are at the cutting edge of technology in our industry.

Of great interest was the overseas experience with Performance Based Standards.  It was obvious from the comments made by various speakers that the principal obstacle in the way of a successful PBS implementation was regulatory rather than technical.  It is hopeful that the current work being undertaken by the National Transport Commission and the formation of a National Heavy Vehicle Regulator will go a long way towards improving the parlous state of PBS in Australia.
